Course objectives
The goal of the course is to supplement theoretical knowledge in the domain of educational psychology with practical skills and self-experience. The potential of simple assessment, intervention planning and hands-on methods of solving problems arising during education and upbringing is demonstrated on model examples by way of project learning. Accent will be put on the individual work while preparing a model lesson aimed at the development of metacognitive strategies.
Learning outcomes
After the completion of the course, student will be able to: Carry out an analysis – assessment of learning strategies of a concrete pupil. Identify deficiencies that affect learning. Suggest how to overcome current difficulties. Summarize metacognitive approaches applicable to particular school subjects.
Syllabus
  • Learning as a specific skill and as a form of self-experience. Metacognitive strategies. The relationship of metacognition and intelligence. Opportunities for intervention by way of fostering metacognitive strategies Basic principles of succesful metacognitive training in school and in home environment. Applying metacognitive approaches to pupils of different ages. Applying metacognition on particular school subjects. Evaluation of metacognitive techniques.
