Course objectives
This course expands on the required course on kinship and addresses one of the important topics in anthropology - caregiving. The aim is to introduce students to the concept of care at different levels and in different contexts. Emphasis is placed on understanding the role of care in everyday life, its role in the process of forming/maintaining kinship ties, the role of globalization and marketization. All this is set in a given historical, cultural and social context, which the course encourages reflection on. On completion of the course, learners should be able to think critically about the concept of care and reflect on this concept in the wider context of the development of anthropological thought.
