Course objectives (in Czech)
Lecturer: Professor Gary Ferraro -- University of North Carolina at Charlotte This course is designed to help students better understand the vast cultural and linguistic diversity in today s world. Students will be exposed to a wide range of topics in the study of comparative cultures, including language, means of livelihood, economics, marriage, family, kinship, gender relationships, social stratification, political structures, social control mechanisms, supernatural belief systems, and culture change. This course goes beyond the basic outline of introductory materials by asking students to apply the insights, theories and methods of the disciplines to the solution of societal problems. The course will include class discussions and writing assignments. Since cultural anthropology is a highly visible discipline, several ethnographic films will be screened.
