Course objectives

The course is aimed at acquiring basic skills of dramaturgical analysis, understanding the necessary theoretical concepts and their application to specific material. Dramaturgical analysis is seen as a specific form of media text analysis, based on dramatics, aesthetics, film theory and philosophy of art. Students should not only be able to analyze the composition and topic plan, but also the meanings stored in them and describe and analyze them on a wider aesthetic outlook. The course will focus mainly on the analysis of audiovisual works of fiction (series, movies) and non-fiction (news, current affairs, documentary). Suitable for graduates of the bachelor course ZUR383 Dramaturgy practice - deep analysis develops skills of undergraduate study and complements the fundamental theoretical apparatus.

Syllabus

• 1st Introduction.
• 2nd Dramaturgy - historical and theoretical definition of the discipline.
• 3rd Practical analysis I.
• 4th Mimesis I. - history of the concept, definition of a neoclassical imitatio, the realism
• 5th Mimesis II. - A deeper analysis of the concept (Plato, Aristotle), temporality (Ricoeur), the issue of mimesis in the postmodern situation
• 6th Practical Analysis II.
• 7th Composition I - classical structure (Freytag), dramatic situation, character, genre (Hollywood)
• 8th Practical Analysis III.
• 9th Composition II. - Modernism and the avant-garde, analytical procedures, alienation (Brecht), structure, poeticism, abstraction
• 10th Practical Analysis IV.
• 11th Composition III. - Postdramatics, between artefact and happening, performativity, liminarita (Fischer-Lichte, Lehmann)
• 12th Meaning and purpose - hermeneutics and poststructuralism (Derrida vs Gadamer)
