Course objectives
The course focuses on career counseling as one of the specific areas of consulting. After a general introduction to the theories and practice of career counselling the course focuses on the role assessment in the career counseling process and explores the range of tests and other assessment tools used in the process. Students gain practical experience with assessment instruments used in career counseling both in the role of test taker and test user.

  • 1. Introduction to career counseling (explanation of basic concepts) 2. Theories in career counseling (theories based of social learning, cognitive theories, developmental theories) 3. The role of psychological assessment in career counseling 4. Assessment of specific predictors of job performance (eg. BIP, GMA, ...) 5 Assessment of interests and professional/career orientation (eg DVP/SDS, Test of professional interests, Test hierarchy of interests, HO-PO-MO, ...) 6. Assessment of personality (eg Cattel 16 PF, NEO, GPP-I, ...) 7. Assessment of intelligence (eg BOMAT...) 8. Assessment of achievement 9 Assessment of ability and performance (eg Numeric square, LMI, d2 ...) 10 The role of conversation in career counseling 11 Other methods of assessment in career counseling 12 Critical evaluation of assessment tools in career counseling
