Course objectives
The course deals with political history of the 20th century.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to describe modern political history of important European countries, the USA and China, and also interpret key moments and phenomenona of world politics during 20th century.
Syllabus
  • 1) World War I; 2) Russian Civil War and Soviet Union in the 1920s and 1930s; 3) Germany: Treaty of Versailles, Weimar Democracy and Hitler's Rise to Power; 4) World War II; 5) The Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc after 1945; 6) West Germany; 7) Poland after WWII and collapse of Eastern Bloc; 8) France; 9) the USA from World War I to the Vietnam War; 10) China; 11) The USA, Europe and the world after the Cold War.
