Course objectives
At the completion of the course the student will be able to understand and explain the definitions regarded to Islam and Judaism, the reasons of the conflicts between two enemy groups taught during the lectures.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction 2. Determination of the conceptions, development until 1948- radicalism in the Near East before the rise of state Israel – Arabs versus Zionists, Arabian revolt, the role of Jerusalem mufti, Arab and Zionist terrorist groups 3. Organization for the Liberation of Palestine and its radical arms – Tanzim, Abu Nidal etc. 4. Religios radicalism and political mesianism in Israel – intellectual base, Six day war and its results, policy of settlement, Gush Emunim, Meir Kahane movements, political party Kach and kahanism – the most radical components of Israeli policy, the descendents of Kahane – Kahane chaj ! Molodet 5. The Jews against Zionism – different understandings of Judaism and Zionism, non Zionist and anti Zionist groups in Israel such as Neturej Karta, Eda charedit 6. Islamic revolution in Iran and its results for the radical groups as Hizballah etc. 7. Hamas and Islamic jihad – Islamic militant movements and their present. 8. Al –Qaeda 9. Radicalism in Near Est except Israel and Palestine – Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia versus militant Islamic groups; state, Islam and the opposition in Saudi Arabia 10. Radicalism in periphery of the Near East –Islamic radicalism in the Northern Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia), Islamic activism in Turkey from 1980
