- Course objectives
- This segment of the course will explore the nature and legal character of patents, trademarks and copyrights. The historical development of these concepts and their social benefits and detriments will be explored. This segment will also review major differences in comparative law on these subjects as well as brief references to “moral rights” of intellectual property owners and “personality rights” of celebrities. Students will be provided excerpts from major sources of law. The principal frame of reference will be American law

- 1.The necessary elements of a patent, a trademark and a copyright 2. The commercial value and utility of the protected status 3. Examples of things included and excluded in the various categories 4. The statutory definitions used to create and limit rights of inventors, trade names and artistic creators 5. The administrative process for establishing and registering the protected property 6. The extent of exclusion of competing products, trade names and artistic works 7. Various sources of law and treaties applicable to the subjects.
