Course objectives
Biofysics forms theoretical base for almost all modern therapeutical and diagnostical medical devices. The main learning objectives of these practical sessions are: a development of the measurement and instrument use skills of students, the development of a scientific, effective, safe and efficient attitude to the use of biomedical devices, a healthcare practice oriented understanding of the biophysics principles directly related to the management of patients (which are the basis of many medical imaging and physiological monitoring techniques).
Learning outcomes
After finishing this course the student will - understand the most important biophysical principles and laws; master the measurement by means of the basic biophysical instruments as well as the statical evaluation of this measurement; evaluate the results obtained by the basic biophysical methods.
Syllabus
  • Update – autumn 2021: 1. week – Introduction, regulations of practical exercises, laboratory safety rules, 2. - 13. week - Individual laboratory exercises, demonstrations, according following schedule 14. week credit test laboratory exercises: 1. Optical laboratory methods (absorption curve of eosin, refractometrically determination of NaCl concentration. 2. Haemolysis (quantification of haemolytic effect of therapeutic ultrasound) 3. Blood pressure, temperature, ionizing radiation (measuring the blood pressure using auscultation method and digital tom tonometer, measuring of body temperature using thermocouple, measuring of attenuation of ionizing radiation) 4. Properties of liquids – surface tension 5. Properties of liquids – viscosity 6. Electric properties of tissues, monitoring of heartbeat frequency (measuring of electrical resistance and impedance of human body, basics in long-term heartbeat monitoring) Demonstrations: 7. Ultrasound in pregnancy 8. Imaging methods in pregnancy 9. Principles of diagnostic devices in obstetrics 10. Principles of other diagnostic and therapeutic devices in medicine 11. Environmental factors 12. Electromagnetic radiation, its influences and perception

Assessment methods
Giving the cours-unit creditis conditioned by full atendance in the lessons, theoretical knowledges about tasks and protokols for all tasks made by the teachers instructions. Course is finished by the credit test,student must gain at least 50% points.

Information on completion of the course: Podmínkou je absolvování všech cvičení a odevzdání protokolů měření.,Absence musí být omluvena cestou stud.oddělení do 5 dnů.Probíhá průběžná kontrola znalostí,zápočtový test je nutno napsat nejméně na 10/20 bodů.Je možnost test 2x opakovat do 20.1.2013

General note: cvičení je ukončeno závěrečným testem,kde musí student získat minimálně 10 bodů z 20 možných bodů.
