Course objectives
At the end of the course, the student is able to search for relevant information on drugs and to gain this information from reliable sources; student will also understand the basic problems of dosage forms and types of drug application. Student will recognize pharmacoterapeutical drug clases and representative drugs, is able to characterize specific drug groups stated in the syllabus with the emphazis on their therapeutic and adverse effects and potential drug interactions.

  • Lessons: 1st - 10th week - Monday 13.30- 14.45 (1,5 hr), Dpt. of Pharmacology, UKB A19

  • 1st lesson (18.9.):Routes of administration of drugs, drug dosage forms.
  • 2nd lesson (25.9.): Pharmacology of peripheral nervous system I. Terminology, PNS neurotransmission, adrenergic and cholinergic receptors, agonists a antagonists.
  • 3rd lesson (2.10.): Sympathotropic drugs.
  • 4th lesson (9.10.): Parasympathotropic drugs. Test topics 1-3.
  • 5th lesson (16.10.): Histamin and antihistamines. Antiasthmatics I.
  • 6th lesson (23.10.): Antiasthmatics, antitussives, expectorants.
  • 7th lesson (30.10.): Local anesthetics, myorelaxants. Test topics 4-6.
  • 8th lesson (6.11.): Opioid analgesics..
  • 9th lesson (13.11): NSAIDs.
  • 10th lesson (20.11.): Credits. Test topics 7-9. Case reports.

Teaching methods
In practicals students are provided with a pharmacology teacher presentation with presentations of video-programmes related to the topic stated in curriculum followed by discussion.
Assessment methods
The students have to prove the active knowledge of pharmacology. The students have to pass multiple-choice written revision tests to get credits. Each test contains 10 questions. One point is granted for each correctly answered question. Students have to score at least 3 points from each test and score at least 10 points from all tests together to get credits. The test cannot be repeated. The points reached over the minimum value are added to the score of the final exam test.
