Course objectives
Explanation of basic principles of the anatomical and functional organisation of the nervous system. Explanation of fundamentals of clinical neurological examination, neurological topography and syndromology, and introduction of basic neurological syndromes. Introduction of case-history taking, basic neurological examination methods and tests,their indications, contraindications and complications. Introduction of main groups of neurological diseases in childhood and adulthood (stroke, epilepsy, spondylogenic neurological syndromes, demyelinating, neuromuscular, neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders of the nervous system, trauma of the brain and spinal cord, infections of the nervous system): theoretical backgrounds, review of the current diagnostic and therapy and presentation of typica case-reports.
Syllabus
  • Basic principles of neurological topography and syndromology. Basic neurological syndromes. Fundamentals of neurological symptomatology. Case history. Clinical neurological examination. Electrodiagnostic methods: electroencephalography, electromyography and nerve conduction studies, evoked potentials. Fundamentals of etiopathogenesis of neurological diseases. Basic principles of anatomical and functional hierarchy and organisation of the nervous systém. Brain lobes. Topography of cortical brain functions. Disorders of the motor systém: pareses, dyskinesias, myoclonus, speech disorders. Disorders of the sensitive system. Sensory disturbances. Disorders of the autonomic nervous system. Vascular disorders of the brain. Neuromuscular, spondylogennic and demyelinating diseases of the nervous system. Neurotraumatology, neuroinfections, degenerative and metabolic diseases of the nervous system. Tumours of the nervous system. Headache. Epilepsy. Basic principles of development of the nervous system. Specificities of neurological disorders in the childhood.
