Syllabus
  • The course of medical chemistry follows secondary school chemistry and broadens the subject considerably to the level required for the study of biochemistry in the second year and patophysiology and pharmacology even later. The subject covers the basic principles of chemistry (kinetics of chemical reactions, Gibbs energy, equilibria in solutions of electrolytes, acid-base and redox reactions, polarity of molecules, non-bonding interactions) as well as the survey of biochemically important inorganic and organic compounds. A special attention is paid to the structures and chemistry of saccharides, lipids, steroids, aminoacids, proteins, nucleotides and nucleic acids.
