Course objectives
Subject Nursing in geriatrics offers students the basic overview containing general problems fo gerontology and geriatrics, diferences of care for elderly patient and intedisciplinary diseases of elderly patients.
Syllabus
  • General introduction - definition of gerontology, geriatrics, theories of ageing, ageing..
  • Somatic manifestation of ageing, psychical manifestation of ageing, adaptability.
  • Functional geriatric assessment.
  • Specific features of diseases in elderly.
  • Giant geriatric syndromes - introduction, instabilita and falls, injuries in elderly.
  • Cognitive impairment.
  • Immobilization.
  • Incontinentia and its complex solution. Urogenital system in elderly.
  • Skin integrity disturbancies - sore ulcers.
  • Delirium and other behavioral disturbances in elderly.
  • Depression and further psychical diseases in elderly, suicidia.. Sleep disturbances in elderly1.
  • Nutrition in elderly, metabolic disorders in eldrly
  • Thermoregulation problems in elderly, geriatric maladaptation syndrome, elderly abuse syndrome
  • Endothelium in aged persons, thromboembolic disease, haematologic changes in elderly
  • Cardiovascular system in aged patients
  • Respiratory system in elderly patients
  • Digestive system in aged patients
  • Locomotion system in elderly
  • Endocrine system in elderly, diabetes mellitus and old patient
