Course objectives
The subject is composed as the combination of theory and practise. Main goal is to form the rescue worker´s relation to his vocation, develop his professional skills is stressfull situations at work. Student´s will learn to know themselves and work with others in a broad variety of model-stress-situations which emerge due to the profession. Lessons are enriched with the active relaxation technique training.
Syllabus
  • 1. Personality of health-care rescue worker (motivation for the vocation; ego-defending mechanisms; basics of the mental hygiene; burn out syndrom – basic symptoms, manifestations, its´ cure and prevention; own preventive methods in terms of physical, psychic, social and spiritual level). 2. Patient in the pre-hospital urgent care (PUC) (patient, premorbid personality; PUC patient´s psyche – autoplastic picture of the sickness – aggravation, simulation, disimulation, trivialisation,repudiace, nosophile attitude; Münchausen´s syndrome; psychotraumas). 3. Patient in the pre-hospital urgent care – collective behavior (term collective behavior, emergency event. – 5 signs of the stress load during the mass accidents; psychological first aid; panic, crowd psychosis, 6 phases of catasrophe in the community) 4. Situational aspects in pre-hospital urgent care (anxiety, fear and pain as the psychological phenomena in the rescue worker´s profession; stress – eustress, distress, urgent stress-reaction, myths in enhancing the lived trauma, frustration, deprivation, confict, mo mobbing, bossing) 5. Crisis intervention and psychological first aid (crisis, types of crisis, crisis intervention, basic characteristics of the psychological first aid – 6P method; extreme crisis solution – suicidum, unperfect suicidum – types, perfect suicidum – types, presuicidal mentality; possible solutions) 6. Communication in pre-hospital urgent care – communication styles (communication between the dispatcher and the calling person; communication between the rescue worker and patient – hearing, respect, empathy and care, 4P rule; communication with the family members; communication with the witness of the accident – „bystander phenomenon“; „dissolved responsibility“) 7. Communication in pre-hospital urgent care – communication rules for the communication with the specific patient (communication rules with the aggressive patient, with the child patient, with the handicaped patient – visual, aural, combined; with geriatric patient) 8. Teaching methods
Type of the tuition – lecture 1 hour, practice 1 hour. Tuition methods: active engagement is assumed, individual work, pair work, work in groups; active relaxation technique and method training; 85% participation.
Assessment methods
Prerequisite to the finalisation of the subject matter is completing the written seminar work according to the given conditions, choice from 5 topics circles (4 given ones, 1 own; topics regard the topis of the lectures and passing the written exam which consists of 20 questions being marked by 20 points. 14 points are necessary to pass the exam.
