Course objectives
The course is designed to be practical. The aim is to consolidate the knowledge of the Geriatrics lecture and to acquire the necessary skills for the care of the patient with involutional changes, impaired health and diseases typical in older age while taking into account the needs of the elderly changed by the disease. This course focuses on long-term nursing care and palliative care, addressing the specifics of caring for a patient in the terminal stage of illness.
Learning outcomes
Student:
knows the differences in the individual needs of people of older age groups and the way they are satisfied, including the diversity of multidisciplinary care for the elderly in the field of outpatient and inpatient health services.
Syllabus
  • Nursing management of diseases of individual body systems, specifics of treatment of the elderly in pre-hospital and hospital emergency care, the most common acute conditions and their management. The practical exercises include a short period of time dedicated to a practical internship in a palliative care setting (St. Elizabeth's Hospice) and an internship in a home for the elderly.
