VLPP3X1 Nursing && SOUHLAS
Enrollment in course is conditioned by the lecturer´s consent. Knowledge of anatomy so that students are able to understand the theoretical background and connect it with nursing activities (interventions) and procedures. Knowledge of first aid so that students are able to respond to sudden changes in the health status of patients while providing basic nursing care (within their competences).

Course objectives
The course is intended for students, who have completed the course VLPP3X1 Nursing as a credit course (didn´t take an exam). The subject is an introduction to the scientific field of nursing for students of the General Medicine program. The teaching is focused on information from nursing and nursing care. At the same time, the teaching is focused on training practical skills, namely basic nursing activities and procedures, according to the latest scientific knowledge in real conditions of clinical practice.

After completing the course, students will be able to:
In the area of cognitive goals:
define the field of nursing, its basic principles and goals, list the needs of patients, define the stages of the nursing process
know the content of the medical documentation
explain the term Evidence-Based Practice
know hygienic and anti-epidemic measures and principles of barrier care
know nursing activities and procedures in selected areas of care (see course outline).
In the area of psychomotor goals:
observe hygienic and anti-epidemic measures and principles of barrier care
provide nursing care to hospitalized patients
measure and evaluate patients' vital signs.
In the area of affective goals:
understand the importance of following nursing procedures according to established standardized procedures, accept the importance of nursing care and the role of the nurse in a multidisciplinary team.
Syllabus
  • Through the subject, students will acquire knowledge and skills for the implementation and evaluation of basic nursing care and for the implementation of diagnostic-therapeutic activities that are within the competence of the nurse, or during which the nurse assists the doctor, in the following areas:
  • Nursing theory, nursing process, health documentation, evidence-based practice.
  • Epidemiological aspects of work in healthcare facilities, infections associated with the provision of healthcare, barrier nursing care.
  • Hygienic care including monitoring skin changes, skin care, bedsores and their prevention, immobilization syndrome.
  • Measurement of vital functions (TT, BP, P, consciousness, breathing, ECG).
  • Diet administration, diet system - administration of food for special medical purposes, fluid balance.
  • Enteral nutrition, introduction and care of  NGS, NJS, PEG, PEJ, gastric lavage.
  • Administration of drugs (per os, per rectum, on the skin, mucous membranes and into body cavities).
  • Application of injections (intradermal/vaccination, subcutaneous, intramuscular).
  • Peripheral venous catheter, peripheral venous access care, central venous catheter care, central venous pressure monitoring, infusion preparation.
  • Transfusion.
  • Introduction and maintenance of oxygen therapy (oxygen therapy), inhalation therapy, suctioning of secretions from the upper respiratory tract.
  • Bladder catheterization (urinary catheter care, monitoring of diuresis), emptying of urine and stool, enema.
  • Patient preparation for aseptic procedures (preoperative preparation, perioperative and postoperative care), basic instrumentation, preparation of a sterile surface for aseptic procedures.
  • Dressing technique, wound dressing (acute, chronic), drain dressing, stoma care, puncture.
  • Application of wraps, poultices, medicinal baths, hot and cold procedures.
  • Rehabilitation nursing (self-sufficiency, self-care, movement disorders, rehabilitation in nursing).
  • Basal stimulation.
  • Reception, translation and discharge of the sick.
  • Care of the body of the deceased, activities connected with the death of the patient.
  • Practice of nursing care activities at clinical workplaces.

Teacher's information
A student can take a trial online test only after proving 80 hours of nursing practice (realized within the last six months at the latest), in internal or surgical departments of adult medicine, under the guidance of a general nurse.

To document the experience, the student will use the form included in the teaching materials of the subject. The completed document is placed by the student in the subject drop-in office.
