Course objectives
The aim of the course is to understand the state of the art in the field of first and second language acquisition both in natural setting and in formal education.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to:
explain the approaches and theories of second language acquisition;
understand the implications of the theories for foreign language teaching;
understand factors influencing second language acquisition;
outline the relevance of the theories for their dissertation research.
Syllabus
  • Hypotheses and theories of language acquisition. Behaviorism and nativism. Current theories: constructivism, social interactionism, connectionism, information processing. Factors influencing language acquisition.
