Syllabus
  • The subject is designed as a practice focused on the development of leisure time education and experiential education. The aim of the seminar is to get the students familiar with the possibilities of educational using of the games. Students present their own game activities, create a portfolio and experience other students’ games in the context of personality development. Students complete a set of tasks according to detailed instructions: Game activity – Paper 1 In a project week the students prepare their own games / block of games for about 75 – 80 minutes, which will be focused on various topics. Students will present and realize the games together with their colleagues considering the age of the children, youth, adults, seniors etc. Students choose their target group. At the very end of the seminar there will be a short feedback reflecting the games presentation, where students explain their intentions and points of view. Subsequently they submit their paper 1 – game activities and their methodology. They will apply the methodology to the concept of education considering the particular topic + they will rework it according to the feedback recommendations. Compulsory game structure (characteristics): emphasis on the methodology, group and target group, output and educational issues, analysis of the game elements, ethnographic importance of the game. Game typology 1. Icebreakers, warm-ups, contact games 2. Games developing social skills (short initiative and team games, „Dynamics“) 3. Games developing strategy and cooperation (longer cooperative games, „Problem solving games“) 4. Games developing communication and intellect (games training communication skills, thought, memory etc.) 5. Games focused on ecological / environmental issues of both local and international character 6. Games focused on socio-economic / multicultural dimensions of global / local issues 7. Creative games, entertaining games (developing creativity, motorics, joy, humour etc.) 8. Games with scenic components 9. Games focused on reflection, feedback, final evaluation. A toy – Paper 2 Students chose one of the most favourite toys from their childhood, and discuss its importance. The they deal with the importance of the toy for the child´s self-concept. They also write an essay based on their own reflection (max. 2 pages) containing a description, historical and ethnographic significance and personal relation or attitude to it. Moral game – Paper 3 Students create their own game or technique developing moral qualities of an individual or a group. Examples are available at the lectures. Students then submit the game together with its methodology (1-2 pages, MS Word), containing: the goal, target group, equipment, methodology, instructions, possible usage and outputs.
