Course objectives
Learning outcomes: To acquaint students with professional terminology, with detailed anatomy and physiology of the human visual organ. Students will be acquainted with the most important diseases related to vision, their etiology, pathophysiology, symptoms, therapies and prevention. The course emphasized the analysis of the impact of eye illness on functional vision. The course has a significant impact on the functional vision examination techniques and the rehabilitation of the visual function with emphasis on visual acuity and binocular vision.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to explain the impact of eye pathologies on functional vision. The student will be able to practice functional examination techniques and rehabilitation of visual functions with emphasis on visual acuity and binocular vision.
Syllabus
  • Eye illness in the World, detailed analysis of problems in European countries, main causes of vision loss, division of visual impairment according to WHO.
  • Anatomy of Eye (deposition of bulb, construction of bulb, emphasis on refraction environment, bulb supply and innervation), supplementary eye organs (adnexa).
  •  Construction of the nerve part of the bulb, visual pathway and visual centers, proper function, pathology.
  • Development of Eye and congenital developmental defects.
  •  Development of visual functions, identification of problems in premature birth.
  • Visus, refractive defects - their symptoms, the way of examination and correction.
  •  Accomodation and its disorders, Presbyopia and its possibilities of correction, method of examination.
  •  Fundamentals of geometric optics of the eye.
  •  Field of view and its examination, most frequent eye field outages, problems with visual vision, possibilities of rehabilitation.
  •  Adaptation to light and darkness, disorders, examination and rehabilitation.
  •  Color vision and its disorders, examination of color and possibilities of rehabilitation, importance of color filters.
  •  Electrophysiology of the eye and its use - special investigation methods.
  •  Binocular vision - Eye disorders - Investigations and rehabilitation.
  •  Disease of the retina - types, causes, therapy, treatment, possibilities of examination and rehabilitation.
  •  Cataract - types, causes, therapy, treatment, possibilities of rehabilitation.
  •  Glaucoma - types, causes, therapy, treatment, possibilities of examination.
  •  General and oncological diseases affecting functional vision, possibilities of rehabilitation.

Interpretation of difficult parts of the curriculum, Theoretical preparation; Study of literature. Continuous testing.
Assessment methods
Continuous test (10 points), Written final exam or oral exam (40 points). To achieve the goal, it is necessary to achieve 70% of the total point earnings. Active approach to study.
