Course objectives
In the compulsorily-optional language course the student will enlarge his terminology and academic language abilities in English. Successful student should have been credited for SZ9BP_CJA1 and SZ9BP_CJA2 courses and completing all written assignments. Examination requirements: - 2 credits ("zápočty") in SZ9BP_CJA1 and SZ9BP_CJA2 - CONVERSATION on the given topics - discussion, analysis and translation of a 5 pages-SPECIAL TEXT prepared as a home assignment (A4 format, approx. 5000 words. SPECIAL TEXT: authentic English or American texts linked to the student's field of study.

  • Examination Topics: 1. Education in the Czech Republic Compared with the U.K. and U.S. Systems. 2. My Field of Study (a talk about academic subjects) 3. Mind, Body, Stress, Health And Sport 4. Gender, Race, Multicultural Issues in the Czech Republic (incl. human rights, ethnic minorities, tolerance, etc.) 5. 21st Century Problems (drug abuse, wars, terrorism, environment, etc.) 6. Growing Up and Growing Old (adolescence, adulthood, ageing) 7. Rules and Restrictions in Schools. Crime and Punishment. 8. The Arts in our life. Cultural Differences in the EU (different cultures, EU countries, etc..) 9. Interpersonal Relations (friendship, love, break-ups, etc.) 10. Non-Verbal Communication (body language, gestural, facial, eye communication, etc.)
