Prerequisites
In the compulsorily-optional English as a Foreign Language Course B, the students will continue learning selected academic skills (survey, written presentation, discoursive composition, summary) in English. Successful students will be credited for active participation in the lessons, for oral and written presentations and for passing the Credit Test at the end of the semester.

Course objectives

Syllabus
  • SV4BP_CJA2 Cizí jazyk B - anglický Weeks 1-3 1. Current problems in Czech schools, especially bullying, lack of young teachers, etc. Text 5. (Discussion. Arguing the point.Essay writing. Role-play.) Weeks 4-6 2. Rules and Restrictions, Crime and Punishment. Text 10. (Expressing opinion in writing. Discussion, arguing the point. Presentation - slogans, posters) Weeks 7-9 3. Interpersonal relations. Non-verbal Communication. Body Language. Text 14 (Opinion exchange, deduction. Picture descriptions. Surveys similarities, differences. Mime role play.) Weeks 10-12 4. Gender, race, cultural differences, ethnic minorities, immigration. Texts 8, 11 (Supporting an argument. Problem solving. Discursive composition - pros, cons, conclusions.) Special task: My field of study. (My studies, departments, lessons,hot issues in my specialisation, current resources - 1st year students experience, etc.) Weeks 1-12 Credit requirements: Final presentations the last week of the semester. The student who has not completed continuous assessments during the particular semester can not be credited! (Student, který nemá splněné průběžné úkoly z jednotlivých témat v rámci daného semestru, nemůže získat kredity, ani zápočet!)

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Practical course in English for Academic Purposes (including surveys, written presentations, summary writing, etc.) Successful student will be credited for active participation in the lesson, for oral and written presentations and for passing Credit Test at the end of the semester. Pro ukončení předmětu jsou předepsány v semestru průběžné kontroly (ustni prezentace, pisemne ukoly, atd.), jejichž výsledky jsou započítávány do závěrečného hodnocení.
