Course objectives
The course objective introduce students to the history of Czech theatre as a part of literary life after 1945. Havong met the course requirements, students are able to illustrate how are changes in the society reflected in the theatre. They recall and use their knowledge of literary trends and movements in Czech drama of the period concerned. They are able to identify and analyze style of significant playwrights writing after 1945.

  • 1.Recommended literature. 2. Czech theatre and drama in 1945-1948. 3. Plays reflecting the WW II and occupation. 4. New history plays. 5. Political satirical plays. 6. Changes in the Czech theatre in 1948 – 1956. 7. Typical plays of fifties. 8. New topics in the Czech play in the second half of 50s. 9. Studio theatres. 10. Changes in the foreign repertoire.

Teaching methods
Type of course: lecture. Methods: presentations, class and group discussions. Students will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
A lecture is completed with a credit. Credit requirements: students are required to participate in the lectures and know the recommended literature.
