Syllabus
  • Content focus: Content focuses on basic concepts in economics, developing an understanding of economic issues related to political, social and ethical aspects. - The economic way of thinking. - Income and expenses. - Costs: fixed, variable, total, average, not sound, opportunity costs, sunk costs. - The market system. Supply / demand curve. Market equilibrium. Shifts of curves. - Elasticity of demand and supply. Cross elasticity. Price and income elasticity. - Human capital theory. Differences in wages (men and women, minorities, the minimum wage, living wage). - Economic growth and business cycles. - Gross Domestic and Gross National Product. - Unemployment: frictional, structural and cyclical. - Inflation (average, galloping, hyperinflation), the measurement of inflation. - Consumption, savings and investments. Private and public savings. - Financial system. Banking system. Central Bank and commercial. Stocks and bonds. - International Trade. Protectionist policies.

lectures, class discussion, projects
Assessment methods
Seminar work focusing on current economic issues (transformation, EU, globalization), the relationship of ecology and ethics to economics, the analysis of views of liberal economists in the market economy. In the range of about 2-3 pages. Students work in defending the test. Oral exam.
