Course objectives
The students will be able to understand, explain and use the knowledge of physical education in the area of athletic and gymnastics. They will be able to use the knowledge and skills in the development of physical skills of younger school-aged children. They will be able to diagnose the technique of various physical skills and design exercises for improvement. They will be able to organize and suitably include physical games as required in various parts of physical education.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basics of safety and hygiene in athletic and gymnastics training, structure of warm-up. Basic terms relating to running, jumping and throwing. Methodological and technical principles of the running alphabet. Basic terminology.
  • 2. Preparatory exercises and games for the development of running speed, endurance, take-off strength and nimbleness.
  • 3. Technique and methodology of running.
  • 4. Technique and methodology of jumping.
  • 5. Technique and methodology of throwing.
  • 6. Basic starting commands and signals, training of various types of starts. Equipment used for measuring performance, methods of measuring and recording achievements, basic rules of various disciplines.
  • 7. Exercise without apparatus.
  • 8. Exercise with apparatus.
  • 9. Exercises with additional apparatus.
  • 10. Modern physical activity accompanied by music or narration or unaccompanied.
  • 11. Stretching and physical activity with an emphasis on good posture.
  • 12. Health aspects and inclusion of motivation during exercise.

Teaching methods
Regular classes. Verbal, demonstrative, and practical.
Assessment methods
Active participation in lessons; diagnostic assessment of methodological series for athletic and game skills; demonstration of organization of athletics-based physical games on a given topic; short individual presentation including preparation for and execution of stretching, strengthening and coordination exercises – physical activity test
