Course objectives
At the end of the course the students should be able to explain the problems of the past and the present of European integration.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students should be able to explain the problems of the past and the present of European integration, in the field of economic, legal and political integration, the student will also indicate the impact of the European Union on the everyday life of citizens, their rights and obligations.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to European integration and disintegration. The impact of the European Union on the everyday life of their citizens. 2. Integration from the legal side - primary and secondary EU law; why the European Union can regulate some areas and not others. 3. EU citizenship. Schengen area. 4. Freedom of movement and residence for persons in the European Union. Recognition of qualifications. 5. Economic integration - from customs to monetary union. Free movement of goods. The euro and the euro area. 6. Dispute resolution within the EU - disputes with individuals, disputes with Member States. 7. Current issues within the European Union, the EU as a political space.
