- Course objectives
- A B2 course whose mission is to develop students' language in receptive (reading, listening), productive (speaking, writing), and interactive modes of communication. Its further aim is to foster autonomy in students by providing them with opportunities to regulate their own learning process (own vocabulary collection and choice of topics). It also offers tasks that will enable students to develop their academic skills, for example researching sources and synthesizing information. Last but not least, the course materials provide a wide range of activities that are aimed at helping students to acquire and practise specialist vocabulary.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of this course, students will be able to understand spoken and written texts on SNE topics at the B2 level according to the CEFR. Furthermore, they will have researched an SNE topic related to their own experiences and shared it with their classmates. In addition, students will have demonstrated a technique used in SNE, given feedback on their peers' performances, and created a personal list of academic and/or specialist vocabulary. They will also have practiced selected B2 grammar structures and reflected on their progress and the work they have accomplished throughout the semester.
- Syllabus
- Subject-specific topics: issues related to vision loss, hearing loss, speech and language disorders, physical disability and educating students with individual differences. Skills to be practised: synthesising information; mediating information, giving feedback and reflecting. Grammar (self-study): tenses; passive; modals; verb patterns; word formation, B2 sentence structures.
