Prerequisites
Mastering the graphic system of Russian language. Studying introductory lesson (Lesson 0) Russian textbook called "Učebnice současné ruštiny", vol. 1 (Olga Belyntseva, Adam Janek).

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop language knowledge and communication skills in Russian, specifically:
– developing the ability to communicate in selected topics;
– developing interaction skills in oral and written expression;
– improving prepared and spontaneous oral expression;
– consolidation of skills and knowledge in phonetics and phonology;
– consolidation and expansion of already known vocabulary.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
– understand read texts and recordings in Russian;
– express themselves on a given topic;
– use the necessary vocabulary in oral and written expression.
Syllabus
  • 1. Formal and informal introductions. How to approach a stranger with a request.
  • 2. Occupation and profession.
  • 3. I am a student. My study obligations. At school. Foreign language learning activities.
  • 4. Our day and time: detailed description of activities. Working days vs. weekend.
  • 5. My house/apartment: rooms and furniture. Interior vs. exterior. Description of school.
  • 6. My loved ones and me: what we are like (body parts and appearance).
  • 7. Interesting cities. Orientation in the city.
  • 8. Weather in the world and popular weather.
  • 9. Animals: domestic, farm, wild.
  • 10. Holidays and traditions.
  • 11. Birthdays and gifts.
  • 12. Revision.

Teaching methods
– reading and listening to Russian texts;
– working with audio-visual resources;
– playing language games;
– conversations in pairs and groups;
– regular mandatory homework assignments;
– ongoing independent preparation.
Assessment methods
Oral credit: presentation on a selected topic prepared and presented in pairs (verification of the skill of conducting a prepared monologic speech); group discussion (verification of communication and interaction skills).

a) On the basis of individual assessment, course abroad with equivalent content may be recognised if it is duly taken and completed;

b) Otherwise, in order to be admitted to the examination, it is necessary to submit the compulsory homework and to pass a written and oral examination upon return from abroad.
