Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to develop students understanding of primary pedagogy on theoretical and practical level and thus to improve their knowledge of the field of primary education, teaching and learning of children at the early school age. The issues are dealt with in the context of transformation of the Czech schools and educational goals for the 21st century.
Syllabus
  • Primary education in historical development and its current conception. Modern primary school, its transformation and perspectives, alternatives in primary education. The objectives of primary education. The primary education curriculum and its update in the Framework Educational Programme for primary education. Educational standards. The profession of a teacher and competences of a primary school teacher. Family and school in the first stage of primary education. Primary school pupil, personal and social educational problems. Education to prosocial, civil, democratic, patriotic, European values, multicultural and environmental education. Teaching strategies and constructivist approaches in primary education. Didactic principles in primary teaching and education. Differentiation and individualisation in primary education. Dealing with gifted pupils and pupils with special needs. Obtaining data on school results, school evaluation, school work evaluation. School and classroom management.. Organisation and management of the Czech educational system.
