Course objectives
Students learn about significant works of youth literature, analyse them, and using the basic interpretational methods uncover connotations and plural meaning of individual pieces of literature. Students will get an insight into the basic trends of literature for young adults in the respective period, as well as into the specific nature of its poetics. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for that particular period. The course draws upon the seminar "Literature for young adults".

  • Students are supposed to read and interpret 20 selected books on poetry and 25 prosaic books for children and youth.

Teaching methods
Students will get a deeper insight into trends in literature for young adults in the respective literary period, as well as into the specific nature of the poetics of individual literary movements. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for a particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in the classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
