Course objectives
The objectives of the course are three (following three thematic blocks of the course). 1) To acquaint students with the current concept of media education or media literacy in teaching at primary and secondary schools. 2) Introduction to essential topics of media theory (media development, media influence, media perception, media and socialization) and 3) principles of media work and creation of media messages (focusing on news, journalism and their types).
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: (1) Explain the importance and content of the cross-sectional subject Media Education. (2) Explain the basic principles of media functioning in society. (3) Critically distinguish between media genres and (4) critically analyse media messages.

Teaching methods
Online distance course with three running tests and at least two compulsory on-line consultations of the final written work (the text on the topic of the student's choice).
Assessment methods
The course is taught. Students complete three on-line tests (one per each block) and submit a written paper in the range of five standard pages. All parts of the assessment are obligatory and scored. To obtain the credit it is necessary to receive at least 60% of the total number of points (expected total number of points is 100).
