Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the students will understand, be able to explain and use the basic knowledge of physical education and health education. The course is a theoretical basis for the follow-up courses of PE didactics and Health education didactics 1 and 2.
Learning outcomes
The students will be able to understand, explain and use the basic knowledge of physical education and health education. They will be able to assess the possibilities of the teacher and the school in terms of students’ health promotion.
Syllabus
  • Health and its determinants. Health status of the population of the Czech Republic. Strategy of health protection and promotion and disease prevention. Health promotion in the school environment. The most famous systems of physical education in world history. Outline of the development of school physical education and health education. Movement skills, movement learning, factors influencing the movement learning process. Metabolism in physical activity, concepts of health-related fitness. School and out-of-school physical activity regime of pupils. Physical education of disabled pupils, prevention and compensation of motor system disorders. Human nutrition, obesity and nutrition-related diseases, nutritional behaviour of children and possibilities of influencing it in school and out-of-school environment. Smoking, alcohol and addictive behaviour. Primary and secondary prevention of addictive behaviour. Sex education as part of health education. Prevention of health risk behaviour. Issues of childhood injuries. Summary of issues.
