Course objectives
The aim of this course is to make students familiar with legal aspects of archaeological monument care in the Czech Republic, with its basic principles. Focus will be laid on the main institutes and terms, such as archaeological find, archaeological research, organisations authorised to perform research etc. Students should be able to understand the theory and apply it in real situations.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, student will be:
- knowledgeable in current legislation and legal standards of the Czech Republic
- able to identify any activity colliding with interests of monument care
- able to determine and describe possible applications of monument care in various situations of archaeological practice

  • Introduction to study, monument care, archaeological monument care, legal sources, legal basis; Organisation of the field of archaeological monument care; Status of the organisations performing archaeological research; Archaeological find; Archaeological research, scientific archaeological research; Archaeological rescue research; Area with archaeological finds, possibilities of its preservation; Legal responsibility for breaching the rules; Possibilities and solutions for the future.
