The main objectives of the course are: to introduce students to the principles of academic writing in theoretical and practical terms; become familiar with the principles of citations in the text, and to present different types of bibliographic formats. Also to show bibliographic management software. AI tools for academic writting included. The course guides students through the writing of a qualification paper, step by step. The interactive curriculum is used as a signpost for what students should choose for which subject areas. The course is designed for students from all ten faculties, and the specifics of each field are taken into account in the teaching.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- write an academic text with all its requisites
- distinguish standards for bibliographic data
- include citations correctly in the text and distinguish citation methods
- format text correctly
- use AI tools for academic writing

  • 1. Specifics of qualification papers 2. Information preparation and critical thinking, AI tools for academic writing 3. Basics of professional style 4. Structure of the qualification paper and compositional practices 5. Citation in the text and the importance of citing the literature used, including AI tools 6. Bibliographic data 7. Teaching methods
Each lecture includes a demonstration of the application of certain procedures, methods and tools using concrete examples. The specifics of different disciplines of all faculties of Masaryk University are taken into account. The course has a very sophisticated interactive curriculum with very relevant materials for each topic discussed.
Assessment methods
Requirements: study of the materials assigned in the interactive curriculum, completion of the practice answer sheets in the IS (two per semester). The prerequisite for successful completion of the course is the completion of a written test. Students must pass the test with at least 60%.
