Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce in detail into selected aspects of cultural life of Rome during the reign of the Julio-Claudian dynasty and to demonstrate, how works of literature were influenced by politics in this period.
Learning outcomes
After the completion of the course the student will be able to
- summarize the basic features of satire;
- compare the features of the Menippean satire with the Roman satire;
- explain the structure of ancient novel;
- interpret the work of Seneca the Younger and Petronius.
