Course objectives
Explain dandyism as a long-term cultural historical phenomenon, with historical antecedents that go back to courtesy. Analyze the origin of dandyism and its transformations. Analyze literary texts.
Learning outcomes
The course will allow students to:
- master basic concepts to identify the phenomenon of dandyism
- analyze literary texts
Syllabus
  • The lecture and the discussion form of teaching will be employed. The lecture deals with the basic features of the dandysm and its diffents historical aspects in the French literature of the 19the and 20th century. The analysis of texts will try to reveal specific features of the phenomenon as well as its historical relationship. 1. Dandysm as a social and literary phenomenon. 2. Transfer from England to France. 3. Dandysm as a problem of the fringe (marginality). 4. Dandysme and "salons littéraires". 5. Dandysm in the long historical and cultural context.
