Course objectives
Main goal is introduce branch of Psychiatry to students, inform students about valid international clasification of mental disorders and main¨groups of mental disorders, and provide informations about principal therapeutics approaches - biological and psychotherapeutical treatment.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is able
- to define and describe current international clasification of mental disorders
- to understand the basic psychopathology of individual mental function
- to employ manifestation of psychopatology in the diagnostic proces
- to formulate acquired knowledge in concrete output of psychological report
- to evaluace aplication and usefulness of biological and psychotherapeutical treatment
- to evaluace legal and ethical aspects of communication and treatment of mental disorders
Syllabus
  • 1. Introdution into psychiatry and position of psychiatry in medicine. Classification of mental disorders. Organisation of psychiatric care. Psychiatric investigation. 2. Organic, including symptomatic, mental disorders. Issues of old age psychiatry. Attention deficit / hyperaktivity disorder. 3. Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of psychoactive substances. 4. Schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders. 5. Mood (affective) disorders. 6. Neurotic, stress related and somatoform disorders. 7. Behavioural syndromes - eating disorders. 8. Disorders of personality and behaviour in adults person. 9. Biological treatment. Actual trends in treatment of mental disorders. 10. Problems of cognitive deficit in psychiatric diagnoses - schizophrenia, depression, BAP, neurotic disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders .... 11. Possibilities of rehabilitation and remediation of cognitive functions 12. Instructional films; discussion

Teaching methods
Teaching is based on lectures with interactive features. Special themes are presented by professionals from the field of Psychiatry. A more detailed literature dealing with special issues is recommended during each lecture. Lectures are ended by discussion.
Assessment methods
Teaching is terminated and evaluated by oral examination.
