Course objectives
The goal of this block of lectures is to introduce students to the basic principles of theory and practice of Rorschach method from the perspective of the comprehensive system of John E. Exner. Students will be introduced into the history of this system, its empirical statistical background, perceptional and cognitive aspects of the test, and its practical application from the point of view of standard procedures of administration, assessment and interpretation. In connection with this goal the block includes as a requisite some educating in psychopathology, dynamic models of personality assesment and corresponding developmental context, as well.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course student will be capable of understanding the Rorschach test in the context of its theoretical foundations, historical development from the beginning to the present.
Students will be introduced to the principles of test administration, scoring, quantitative and qualitative processing of acquired materiál, structural summary compiling and its use for clinical report and differential diagnostic considerations.
Acquired knowledge will be practised in working with protocols of concrete clinical cases.
Syllabus
  • The development and the present state of Rorschach diagnostics, comparison of „the european“ tradition and the comprehensive system of John E. Exner.
  • The theory of Rorschach method – the Rorschach as a perceptional cognitive m ethod, the Rorschach as a projective method.
  • The principles of Rorschach interpretation, employed psychodiagnistic schemas.
  • The Rorschach method administration, initial interview, instructions, association phase, inquiry. Technical and psychological aspects of administration.
  • General principles of scoring the perceptional and cognitive style, determinants, reponse contents, practicing of scoring using concrete clinical materials.
  • Data quantification, scores and indices interpretation.
  • Assessment of personality, psychological functions and their disorders. Cognitive functions, reality testing, emotionality, defense mechanisms, aggression.
  • Final interpretation and report formulating using the obtained clinical material.
