Course objectives
The course describes the genesis and course of the conflict-filled coexistence of the Order of Teutonic Knights in Prussia with its neighbours, particularly Poland and Lithuania, from the 1230s up to the year 1525, when the order’s domain was secularized. Various ways of resolving the conflict – military clashes, diplomacy, lawsuits, propaganda – will be discussed with the aim of finding an answer to the question of whether the conflict-filled coexistence of the Order with the neighbouring states was inevitable.
