Course objectives
The course will focus on history and development of so called new waves in West European cinemas from the sixties to the eighties. Lectures will concentrate on the phenomenon of French New Wave, Kitchen Sink Cinema or New German Cinema. In detail we will focus on the trend of auteur directors (Jean-Luc Godard, Lindsay Anderson, Pier Paolo Pasolini or Rainer Werner Fassbinder) and also on new trends in genre cinema influenced by the poetic of new wave filmmakers.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will:
be able to understand modern poetics of new wave films in different West European countries;
know key new wave films, directors and other film artists from West European region;
be able to understand historical context of new waves in West Eropean cinemas.
