Prerequisites (in Czech)
Předmět je otevírán také pro studenty nefilologických oborů. Pro účast na přednášce (45 min) není nutná znalost latiny. Seminář, který bude vždy po přednášce následovat (opět 45 min), je určen pouze studentům se znalostí latiny. Vyžaduje se důkladná znalost latinského jazyka v rozsahu státní bakalářské zkoušky, složení bakalářské zkoušky však není podmínkou pro zapsání do semináře.

Course objectives
The course will deal with the attitude of the early Czech Reformation towards art and images, as reflected in the contemporary literary polemics. As an introduction, the problem will be contextualized within the general history of iconoclasm.
Syllabus
  • After general introduction to the subject of iconoclasm in England and Bohemia at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries (Holcot, Dymmock, Wiclif, Matthew of Janov), the course will focus on the situation in Bohemia and will follow the discussion between the critics of images (Hus, Jacobellus of Stříbro, Nicholas of Dresden, Peter Payne) and their defenders (Augustinians, Páleč, Štěpán of Dolany).
