Course objectives
Main objective can be summarized as follows: to read selected texts (literary extracts, newspaper etc.) to understand selected texts (vocabulary, phraseology, idioms etc.) to discuss the main ideas of the texts to write an essay on the ideas from the texts

Teaching methods
Based on students´ homework consisting in reading selected literary or publicistic texts, the passages that are difficult or interesting from the point of view of its language or ideas are analysed in detail in the seminar. This is followed by interpretation of the text and discussion of its topic. The work with the text is finished by writing an essay on the particular topic or translating a selected part of the text into Czech.
Assessment methods
Credit: a) attendance and active participation in the course (min. 50 %) based on the given homework b) writing 5 short essays on particular topics, translating selected passages of the texts into Czech
