Course objectives
Teaching aims and tasks:


a) Familiarization with the significance of rhyme and its’ place in poetic text;
b) Introduction to early uses of rhyme in verse discourse of different nations;
c) Understanding of hitherto imprecise and incorrect therminology, reasons for usage of more accurate terms, scientific explanations for application of new terms, the necessity for standardization of rhyme therminology in scientific communities of all nations.
d) Preparation of students for achieving critical attitude towards current scientific positions, as well as the ability for indipendent scientific research in order to discover existing qualitative and quantitative rhyme models in poetry of their nations.

Syllabus
  • Topics:

  • 1) Significance and placement of rhyme in poetic texts (Monday, 17th: first class); History of rhyme (Monday, 17th: second class);
  • Round table: repetition, discussion with students, homework (Monday, 17th: third and fourth class);

  • 2) Rhyme therminology in literary theories of different nations (Tuesday, 18th: first, second and third class);
  • Round table: repetition, discussion with students, homework (Tuesday: 18th: fourth class);

  • 3) Quantitative models of rhyme:
  • a. monophonemic rhyme
  • b. biphonemic rhyme
  • c. triphonemic rhyme
  • d. tetraphonemic rhyme
  • e. pentaphonemic rhyme etc. (Wednesday, 19th: first, second and third class);
  • Round table: repetition, discussion with students, homework (Wednesday, 19th: fourth class);

  • 4) Quality of rhyme:
  • а. isomorphic rhyme;
  • b. epenthetic rhyme
  • c. metathetic rhyme
  • d. metathetic-epenthetic rhyme (Thursday, 20th: first, second and third class);
  • Round table: repetition, discussion with students, homework (Thursday, 20th: fourth class);

  • 5) Round table: repetition of all topics, open discussion with students (Friday, 21th: first, second, third and fourth class).
Teaching methods
Combination of monologic and dialogic method, students should be prepared in advance in order to understand the lectures, ask questions, form opinions and discuss the topics among themselves and with the teacher as well.
