Course objectives
This seminar course contributes to the deepening of knowledge gained during lectures of the course History of studies of religion (RLA12).
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- discuss particular texts on the academic study of religions;
- recognize key problems of the methodology of the academic study of religion and particular theories;
- compare and judge methodological approach of authors of particular theories;
- formulate critical view of discussed theories;
- formulate own approach to discussed problems.

Teaching methods
Seminar: active participation of undergraduates based on home readings of Czech and English academic texts. Students are requested to read and prepare comments on each of the texts. Those comments are base for the participation in discussion about key themes of the discipline and presentation of critical view. Gained abilities are used for the elaboration of seminar paper on the given topic (10 pages, notes).
Assessment methods
Requirements:
(a) study of Czech and English academic texts;
(b) active participation in seminars (at least 75%), presentation of main arguments of read texts;
(c) elaboration and passing of 6 comments on read texts (max 2 pages each);
(d) seminar paper on the given topic (10 pages, notes) passed on deadline.
