Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand issues in the field of Information Industry ; understand the contex and assignment of information requests ; perform reference interview ; choose appropriate information sources ; search and find suitable information ; analyse data ; present outcomes in suitable way ;
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction, information overload 2) Bibliographic software, DMS 3) Reference interview, evaluation and verification of information 4) Mediation of information services (legislation) 5) Leading players (Google and "the others"), meta search engines, utility, interesting SE 6) Advanced methods of retrieval (tips and tricks), visual representation 7) Invisible web, deep web, grey literature, patent information 8) Competitive Intelligence (tools, methods and databases for CI) 9) Information behaviour and information audit 10) Information resources for HR, PES 11) Information resources for information professionals, professional association and organizations 12) New information professions (consultant, brokers, CIO)

Assessment methods
- Students have to be able to interpet parts of lectures themselfs and have to explain to others main topics which will be based on students homework readings. - Attendance level at least 70%. - Oral colloquium will verify understanding of this field.
