For students of Religions Studies department is required course Buddhism or Buddhism I (RLKA10) a Buddhism II (RLKA11) .

Course objectives
The course will survey the general development of interest in Buddhism in Europe, from the first reports to the establishment of monasteries and communities of Buddhists of western origin. At the same time, it will explore the process of acculturation of Buddhism and it connections to Orientalism and Textualism. The course will provide essential historical and critical background to the study of different Buddhist traditions in West. The attention will be paid to gender and family issues and the impact of Buddhism on broader social and culture life. The course will allow the students to explore the role of Buddhism as an important modern cultural source and make basic insight about the effect of Buddhism on literature, ecology, art, sport, gastronomy etc.
