- Course objectives
- To get acquainted with the daily life in the Roman Republic and in the Empire. To be able to properly use and translate terms from different areas of Roman private life; to judge and consult the correct use of so-called private realia in literature, film etc.
The student will have the knowledge of the Roman way of life, which will help him/her to better comprehend the development of Roman history and Roman thinking. He/she will be able to critically evaluate the use of Roman realia in various works of art and educational programmes. - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- Familiarization with aforesaid areas through lectures and reading samples, taken especially from poetry, drama, private correspondence, satire, ancient novel. In fictive dialogues students will strive e.g. to arrange a Roman wedding, arrange a house, compile a menu and cultural programme for a banquet, describe problems of Roman farmer during the year etc. In images they will identify individual house equipment, parts of garment etc.

- Colloquium, in which successful participation in aforementioned dialogues will be taken into account.
