Course objectives
The course is aimed at developing skills in creating large-scale translations with specific functions. Students will be introduced to the theory of the principal strategies within the act of translation – in the work of a functionalist translator – and they will acquire the skills needed to use these strategies. The strategies are based in cognitive-semantic approach to text.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- use the correct methods and techniques in the individual stages of translation
- use the correct macro-strategies
- recognize the style characteristics of various genres
- use cognitive-semantic approach to determine the purpose of a text
- differentiate between the features of various genres based on the commission
- create adequate communicative translation
