Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to offer an introduction into translation and interpretation issues concerning different types of texts. 1. Translation of different types of texts; 2.Consecutive interpreting. Students get acquainted with basic terminology and main principles of translation and interpreting practice.
Learning outcomes
Student who successfully complete the course are acquainted with: a) basic terminology in the field of Translation studies, b) main principles of translation and interpreting practice.
Syllabus
  • The seminars focus on the practical aspects of translation, including the systematic use of translation tools,dictionaries, the identification of relevant internet sources, specialized terminology, the processing of glossaries, the creation of a resume, etc. Part of the seminars is devoted to consecutive interpreting. Main topics: - social sciences - natural sciences - massmedia - EU institutions and organizations - administration

Teaching methods
Introductory classes offer basic specialized terminology with an overview of general concepts and their definitions. In the seminars students are expected to make use of theoretical knowledge, while working with different sort of texts based on thorough previous preparation.
Assessment methods
Regular homework required. Students should meet assignment deadlines. Final exam: Written test (success rate: 70%).
