Course objectives
At the end of this course, students will have basic information about the crisis, its typology, possibilities of coping with crisis and helping people in crisis situations. The seminar is practically oriented, students will acquire basic skills of crisis intervention.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be familiar with the basics of crisis intervention. They will be able to describe basic theoretical knowledge about the crisis, its definition, and propose possibilities of intervention. They will be able to recognise and identify specifics of crisis intervention in various situations (crying, panic, aggression, self-harm, suicidal behavior), types of clients (child client, adolescent, adult) and apply basic practical procedures to help people in crisis.

  • Crisis intervention as a creative process
  • Working with crying, aggression, panic
  • Self-harm and suicidal behavior
  • Specifics of crisis intervention when working with children and adolescents
  • Work with the body in crisis intervention
  • Specifics of telephone crisis intervention, chat intervention, and face-to-face intervention
  • Ethics in crisis intervention

Teaching methods
Theoretical preparation and practical exercises in groups. Active participation in discussions and practical exercises is expected.
Assessment methods
For successful completion of the course are required 75% attendance and active approach to discussions and practical exercises. The final evaluation will take the form of a discussion on a given topic.
