Course objectives
The choice to study contemporary authors according to their publishing house is fair and questionable at the same time. Just because they have already shown themselves innovative enough, while being aware of the legacy of the previous generation. Contestable, because, admitting from the outset arbitrary, the choice obviously can not claim to be exhaustive. This course proposes to approach this rather particular phenomenon in the history of French literature. It will attempt to address the most significant representatives in order to ultimately formulate general characteristics without omitting the possibility of listing individual particularities.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - summarize the important features of the current French-written novel and identify typical features for a given publishing house; - identify and describe current trends in French literature; - analyze the work of the contemporary French novelist.
Syllabus
  • In a first will be studied novelists of the first generation, such as Jean Echenoz, Jean-Philippe Toussaint, Patrick Deville, Christian Oster, Marie Redonnet, Jean Rouaud, Francois Bon, Christian Gailly, etc. The focus will be on their affiliation and on the renewal they introduce in the French novel of the last quarter of the twentieth century.
